King Charles III's first visit to Northern Ireland as British monarch

Belfast, United Kingdom: King Charles III has arrived in Northern Ireland on his first visit as monarch. King Charles III accompanied Queen Consort Camilla during a meeting with Lord Lieutenant of Belfast Fianola J-O'Boyle at Belfast City Airport on Tuesday morning. In Northern Ireland, King Charles III will meet with political and religious leaders.

King Charles III will visit all four countries of the United Kingdom before the funeral of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II. According to a press release, the couple is scheduled to host events including a visit to Hillsborough Castle in Belfast, where they will also meet Lord-Lieutenant Gon William Rowan Hamilton of County Down.

The couple visited Scotland earlier this week. King Charles leads a procession behind the Queen's coffin as it was carried from the Palace of Holyroodhouse to St Giles' Cathedral in Edinburgh.

Speaking at Hillsborough Castle, King said the late Queen Elizabeth II had seen significant and historical changes in her long reign. King Charles III said, "My mother felt deeply, I know, the role she played in bringing together people who had been separated in history and made possible the healing of long-standing injuries". "Now, with that shining example before me, and with God's help, I take on my new duties, determined to seek the welfare of all the inhabitants of Northern Ireland."
